Abstract

127,539. Witmeur, A. Feb. 3, 1919. Metal-heating furnaces.-Bars or rods for making bolts, rivets, &c. are heated upon an inclined plate of refractory and porous material in which combustion of gaseous fuel takes place, the bars being fed in succession over the plate. from inclined guideways forming an upward prolongation of the plate. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, guides 2 for the bars are formed by fixed angle irons 3, 4 and adjustable angle irons 5, 6. From the guides 2 the bars pass down over the inclined plate 1 of refractory material provided with adjustable angle iron guides 11, 12, Fig. 3, at the sides. Gas for combustion in the plate 1 is generated in a producer 23 lined with refractory material and filled with incandescent coke. Primary air is supplied to the producer by a pipe 25 and secondary air by a pipe 27. To renew the coke in or remove ashes from the producer, the cover 30 is removed.
