Abstract
11,209. Dempster & Sons, R., and Toogood, H. J. July 22, 1911. Retort furnaces; discharging; cooling discharged materials.-The hot coke leaving a vertical gas retort 2 passes through an extension 16, in which it is cooled and at the same time heats primary air for the furnace or producer and secondary air for the retort flues in separately controllable flues 20, 15, respectively. Water is supplied to the flue 20 to moisten the primary air, and to the coke at 32 to complete the cooling. As an additional cooling-means, there may be employed a flue 30, through which air passes direct to the chimney, and to which water is also supplied. The walls of the extension 16 may be formed with heat transfer ribs projecting into the surrounding flues.
