Abstract
1,272,577. Rod couplings. H. R. SMITH (TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS) Ltd. 29 April, 1969 [30 April, 1968; 5 Aug., 1968], Nos. 20479/68 and 37200/68. Heading F2G. A wire anchorage assembly comprises a socket part 10 in threaded engagement with a retainer 14 and a tube 12 in the socket, with an annular clearance between the socket wall and the tube, the wire 16 being arranged to pass through the tube and then bent back over the end of the tube into the clearance and contacts the wall of the socket or a counter support member which contacts the socket wall, the retainer being arranged to limit axial movement of the tube caused by wire tension. The tube 12 may be tapered so that the bent back wire 16 is gripped between the tube taper and a tapered counter support member between the tube, the socket 10 and the retainer 14. The tube may be tapered, 32, Fig. 4, so that it is forced into a tapered socket in the retainer 30 to grip the wire 36 inside the tube. The wire is provided with a coloured band 17, 37 which protrudes from the retainer 14, 30 if the wire stretches due to overstressing. The support 10 is preferably of electrically conductive material, but may be of insulating material.
