Abstract

1,272,062. Sealing windows &c., hinges. M. F. ROBERTSHAW. 30 April, 1969 [30 Jan., 1968; 13 Feb., 1968; 11 July, 1968], Nos. 4682/68, 6931/68 and 33239/68. Headings E1J and E2F. A closure member, e.g. a frameless window pane 1, is hingedly mounted in an opening 4 having a sealing member 5 or 36 around its edges, and the window pane 1 or the opening 4 (as in Fig. 7, not shown) has around its edges a thin, flexible but incompressible capping strip 2 of metal or plastics for contact with a flexible sealing strip, as at 6 or 8, provided around the edges of the opening or window pane respectively, when the window is closed. The sealing strip may be a rubber tube 6 or a rubber strip 8 carried by an upstanding metal strip 7, and the window pane may have a further flexible sealing strip 3, which may be shaped to co-operate with a capping strip when the latter is provided on the opening. The thickness of the capping strip 2 is typically 0.005 inch. The window pane 1 is hingedly mounted by means of hinge strips 26, 29 having engaging hook-like flanges 27, 28 and secured along an edge of the pane 1 and an edge 30 of the opening respectively. The hinge strip 26 may be cut away at the corners at 26a to accommodate the ends of the capping strip 2 of the adjacent edges, and may be modified to receive double glazing (Fig. 9, not shown). The hinge strips are preferably of steel coated with plastics.
