Abstract
513,553. Gas-proofing doors and windows. STEBBENS, H. C., and COPELAND, T. P. April 13, 1938, No. 11344. [Class 20 (iii)] The peripheral gap between a casement window or door 1 and the fixed frame 2, 3, is sealed by a non-inflatable endless strip 7 of resilient material which extends continuously and uninterruptedly around the edge of the door or window. The strip shown fits into a peripheral groove 6 in the door, and is made of a material which is sufficiently resilient to enable it to be stretched over the door when applying the strip to the door. At the hinged edge of the door the edge of the strip engages with an inclined surface 3a on the door frame, and at the other three edges of the door one side of the strip bears against a rib 8. The outer surface of the door may have a facing 10 of hard steel.
