Abstract
1,270,459. Cooling exhaust gases; pumps. UZINA 23 AUGUST. June 30, 1969, No.32964/69. Heading FiB. A supercharing apparatus of a two or four stroke single or multi-cylinder engine, comprises a centrifugal compressor 10, Fig.2, driven by an exhaust-gas-driven turbine 9, and has a branch pipe 6 through which some of the air from the compressor is delivered directly into exhaust pipe 5 to cool the gases therein to a temperature acceptable to the turbine 9. The quantity of air delivered through pipe 6 is controlled by a valve 7 in direct proportion to the quantity of fuel injected. The cylinder 1 has an inlet valve 2 and a common inlet and exhaust valve 3. During induction an oscillating valve 12 moves into a position in which air is permitted to flow up through a branch pipe 11 and through open valve 3 into the cylinder, the latter also receiving air through the inlet valve 2. The air flow into the cylinder cools the valve 3. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the branch 11 and valve 12 are omitted and the valve 3 functions as an exhaust valve only.
