In a horizontally-mounted rotary fluid-flow machine, e.g. a centrifugal gas circulator as shown, a compressor, blower or pump, or a machine in which the rotor is driven by a fluid, an assembly comprising overhung rotor 9, shaft 6, bearings 11, 12, seal 7 and casing end wall 5 can be pivoted about means 17, 18, 19 away from the remaining portion of the casing 2 into a vertical position as shown, to facilitate access to the seal 7 for maintenance purposes. Before the assembly can be pivoted into the position shown, it is moved horizontally along guide rods 24 to align pivot journals 17, 18 whereafter gudgeon pin 19 is inserted to form the pivot. The pivot means may instead comprise pivoting linkages.
