Abstract

1,202,624. Centrifugal pumps. FILTON Ltd. March 11, 1968, No. 11799/68. Heading F1C. A centrifugal pump comprises an impeller disc 11 carrying on one side, main working blades 10, and on the opposite side, narrower blades 12 arranged in a side chamber 14, and a passage 13 in an end-wall 2 communicates at its outer end with the side chamber 14 and at its inner end with a chamber 16 around a rotary contact shaft seal 15 so that fluid displaced by the impeller can be circulated in the direction of the arrows and cool or lubricate the seal. Arcuate discharge diffusers 6a are formed by arcuate vanes 4, 5, 6 which together form the peripheral wall of the impeller chamber. Each of these vanes entends over nearly 180 degrees and each diffuser extends over 45 degrees or more. The diffusers may discharge into a surrounding chamber having a common outlet.
