A pump or compressor of the type in which a plurality of blades mounted on a shaft 6 and passing through sealing elements 3 in an eccentric ring 1 sweep the inner surface of a casing, is characterized in that each blade is provided with an opening 9 so that fluid trapped within the ring may circulate, and the ring is provided with end walls restraining the blades against axial movement. The inlet and outlet may be similar (Fig. 1, not shown) or may be of different sizes and extend over different lengths of the casing circumference (Fig. 3).
