Abstract

1356583 Centrifugal pumps JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 18 Oct 1971 [27 Oct 1970] 50876/ 70 Heading F1C A centrifugal pump comprises a valvecontrolled inlet (not shown) opening into the inner part of the annular pump chamber, a clearance channel 13 extending around the chamber periphery, a main outlet 14 opening into the outer part of the chamber, an impeller 15 having its periphery closely adjacent the radially inner end of the clearance channel and an auxiliary outlet 20 opening into the clearance channel in a direction transverse to a tangent to the impeller so as to recover kinetic head of rotation of the liquid as static pressure. This enables liquid to be emptied from the pump on closure of the inlet more readily than through the main outlet 14. Fluid may be scavenged from the main outlet 14 for discharge through the auxiliary outlet 20, by means of an ejector energized by auxiliary outlet pressure.
