Abstract

1464308 Circumferential flow pumps GENERAL MOTORS CORP 2 Jan 1975 [7 Jan 1974] 52/75 Addition to 1148707 Heading F1C The circumferential-flow pump described in the parent Specification is modified in that in addition to the vent opening 78, Fig. 3, disposed diametrically opposite the pump inlet 56, a further vent opening 80 is provided between the inlet and the vent opening 78, both vent openings communicating with the annular pumping passage near the radially inner ends of the impeller vanes 86 where the vapour in the fuel being pumped tends to concentrate. A lateral abutment 62, Fig. 4, between the two ends of the pumping passage, includes an upstream extension 94 located radially inward of the pump outlet 58. A ramp 96 radially inward of the extension 94 directs the vaporous radially inner portion of the flowback through the vanes 86 towards the pump inlet 56 and thence towards the vent openings 78, 80 for discharge back to the interior of the fuel tank in which the pump is submerged.
