Abstract

1,112,38. Rotary pumps; centrifugal pumps. ITT INDUSTRIES, Inc. July 16, 1965 [Aug. 13, 1964], No.30379/65. Heading F1C and F1F. A rotary pump includes a rotor 48 having flexible vanes 50 that engage with a cam ring 38 shaped such that the vanes effect positive displacement of the working fluid and ejection thereof into a tangential outlet-passage 94 by centrifugal action, pressure being increased in said passage due to its divergent configuration. The fluid enters the pump through an inlet passage 80 having two branches 82 with the passage 94 lying therebetween, which branches are substantially tangential to the ring 38 and terminate at ports 84 in wear-plates 44 adjacent the sides of the rotor. The lateral edges of the vanes 50 are rounded, Figs. 4 to 4b (not shown), to minimize obstruction of the incoming fluid. An end section 20 of the housing 12 is attached to a mounting member 26 by bolts 24, which member includes a pedestal 30 and can be orientated relative to said section in any one of four directions.
