[Also in Division F4] An installation, for closing the end of a waste gas by-pass conduit 1 opening into a chimney 2, comprises a composite damper 5 pivotally supported by two rods 6 from a crossbar 7 which is raised by means such as a winch (not shown). The conduit 1 has an inclined end formed with a seat 9 carrying an asbestos collar 13 against which the damper 5 seals when in its lowered, closed position. The downward movement of the damper is arranged to be such that its end 14 is prevented from sliding along the seat 9. Stops 10 attached to the damper ensure that the top of the damper seals against the seat 9. The composite damper comprises a metal reinforced concrete slab 20 provided with a refractory covering 19.
