Abstract
880,584. Refining steel. VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISEN-UND STAHLWERKE A.G. July 30, 1959 [Aug. 6, 1958], No. 26252/59. Class 72 An installation for refining steel by blowing an oxidising gas on to the surface thereof, comprises a tiltable vessel, a blowing tube insertable in the vessel a cover, having an opening for the blowing tube, arranged for sideways movement and providing, in the blowing position, a seal with the vessel and with the stationary flue. As show, a vessel 1 has a cover 5 with an opening 6 for the insertion of a blowing tube 21 and the escape of gases, and a tapping hole 7. A hood 8 mounted on wheels 13 may be moved over the opening 6 making a seal with a flange 9 on the vessel and also with a flue 11 at an oblique face 12. A vertical pipe 16 on the hood allows the blowing pipe 21 to be inserted and may also have a side connection 17 for the addition of solid materials The blowing tube 21 may be mounted on a slide 22 on guide rails 20 supported by a pivoted support 19, the slide and pivotal movement of the support being remotely controlled. When the hood is removed sideways the vessel may be tilted and is easily accessible from above.
