Abstract
PURPOSE:To decrease the fuel ratio and Si content in molten metal in a blast furnace operation by blowing oxygen gas into molten metal accumulated in the trumpet of the furnace bottom. CONSTITUTION:Multiple oxygen-blowing nozzles 7 of refractory brick are installed, with equal intervals, on the peripheral wall 5 of blast furnace bottom trumpet zone, at locations above the level of tap hole 4 and below the level of tuyere 2. When molten metal A is accumulated in the furnace bottom trumpet, high-pressure oxygen gas is blown from the nozzles 7 into the metal. The oxygen oxidizes Si in the molten metal and maintains its content as low as 0.2-0.3%. Heat generated by Si oxidation is utilized and, as a result, coke fuel ratio is reduced. Part of the oxygen reacts with coke and C in molten metal, and produces CO, which increases the reduction capability for iron ore.
