Abstract
1,244,756. Converter hoods. KAWASAKI STEEL CORP., and KAWASAKI DOCKYARD CO. Ltd. 3 Oct., 1968, No. 46941/68. Headings F4B and F4J. The waste gas exhaust hood 2 of a converter 1, is provided at its lower end with a vertically movable gas sealing sleeve 3. In the lower sealing position of the sleeve 3, its edges 12, 13, respectively, dip into sand or liquid filled sealing troughs 10, 5, mounted on the bottom of the hood 2, and on a floor member 4 located just below the converter mouth 11. Gas suction pipes 9, 7 are also provided both below the floor 4, and above the charging area for the converter, to further prevent any leakage of the waste gases. When in its lifted position sleeve 3 allows access to the converter through aperture 11. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the lower sealing trough is mounted on a vertical heat shield partly surrounding the converter.
