Abstract

1,253,995. Tube platens. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. 8 Aug., 1969 [8 Aug., 1968], No. 37797/68. Heading F4S. A tube platen 1 comprises a plurality of straight tube lengths 4 connected via return bends 6 to straight tube lengths 5 to define a plurality of flow paths 3 between inlets 7 and outlets 8 distributed across the width of the platen 1. The straight tube lengths 4 and 5 have their respective axes lying in spaced apart parallel planes, the tubes 4 being inclined in the opposite direction to but at the same angle as the tubes 5. Fins, e.g. helically wound, are formed on the tube lengths 4 and 5 but not on the return bends 6. Longitudinally extending baffles 9 are located near the ends of the tube lengths 4 and 5. Fluid to be heated passes through the tubes and heating fluid over the tubes.
