Abstract
634,747. Tubular heat-exchange elements. HUET, A. Oct. 23, 1947, No. 28346. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1946. [Class 64(iii)] A heat-exchanger comprises rows of tubes 2 forming a group or bundle, one fluid flowing through the tubes and another fluid flowing transversely over the tubes each tube having two longitudinal fins 9, 10 spaced 180 degrees apart and lying in parallel planes tangential to the tube surface, the edge of each fin being formed to interengage with the edges of the opposing and aligned fin of an adjacent tube in the same row, whereby passages of varying' cross-sectional area and having continuous walls, are formed for the fluid flowing transversely over the tubes, and displacement of the tubes is prevented. On each tube, one fin 9 has a V-shaped groove 11 in its edge, the other fin having a complementary portion 12 which fits into the grooved fin of an adjacent tube. When a casing surrounds the tubes, the outermost fins may be provided with flanges 14 which abut the casing wall. Stays 13, spaced at intervals, may be welded to the tubes or to the fins in one row and abut the tubes or firs in an adjacent row. The tubes in adjacent rows may be in staggered relation to each other. Specification 628,416 is referred to.
