Abstract
644,442. Tubular heat-exchange elements. HUET, A. Oct. 23, 1947, No. 28348. Convention date, Nov. 15, 1946. [Class 64(iii)] In heat-exchanger apparatus comprising a plurality of parallel tubes 4 each provided externally with longitudinal fins 5, and in which a fluid flows over the tubes in a direction generally parallel to their axes, the fins are undulated, the undulations 8, being periodic and extending transversely to the axes of the tubes whereby the passages through which the fluid flows longitudinally between the tubes, are of varying cross-sectional area and set up periodic pulsations in the fluid streams. The undulations in each fin may be symmetrical but are preferably assymmetric with abrupt variations in curvature and are formed in the edge portion thereof, remote from the tube 4, the portion of the fin adjacent the tube being unwaved and parallel with the tube axis. The fins on each tube may be diametrically opposed as shown in Fig. 4 or they may be disposed tangentially to its peripheral surface. Specifications 628,416 and 642,737 are referred to.
