Abstract
1471079 Tubular heat exchangers HITACHI Ltd 29 Aug 1974 [3 Sept 1973] 37908/74 Heading F4S In a cross-flow heat exchanger in which a plurality of tubes 13 extend through transverse fin plates 11 spaced apart along the tubes each fin has formed therein a plurality of elongate apertures 15 extending substantially radially of the tubes to which they are adjacent, from which apertures portions of the fin material are raised up out of the plane of the fin, each raisedup portion comprising a longitudinal ridge portion 15<SP>111</SP> parallel with the aperture and joined at each end thereof to the fin by an upright portion 15<SP>11</SP>, said apertures and associated raised-up portions being disposed, depending upon their position in the flow path of the external fluid with their length extending generally transverse to the flow direction of said fluid as it passes between the tubes. In the forms described the tubes are relatively staggered so that the fluid (e.g. air) passing in the general direction E-E<SP>1</SP> over the tubes flows in a generally sinuous path between adjacent fins. For example, in Fig. 8 the apertures and associated raised-up portions extend generally radially outwardly from each tube aperture 12 in the fin. The slots and associated raised-up portions may be curved in their length (e.g. 40, Fig. 15). Modifications are described (see Figs. 12-15) wherein for economy or ease in production, apertures are not provided over the whole fin area.
