Ventilating ships. - An exhaust-silencer c for marine engines may assist in ventilating the engine-room, the part c<1> being extended down to the deck and drawing air from the engine-room to mix with the exhaust from the nozzle d. The device may be arranged in the base of a funnel, provided at the top with annular louvers for directing any water that may enter into a central vertical pipe passing through the silencer to the bilges.
