Abstract

576,958. Ventilating ships. FLUOR CORPORATION, Ltd. March 17, 1944, No. 4981. Convention date, July 19, 1943. [Class 137] A ship's compartment 11 containing an internal combustion engine 17 is ventilated by means of a warm air discharge conduit 21 through which a current is created by the effect of the engine exhaust as it escapes from a silencer 20 surrounded by a stack section 22 of the conduit; cool air descends into the compartment through a duct 16 providing access thereto. The lower end of the conduit may extend to a point opposite the duct 16 and have a secondary inlet 34 immediately above the engine, both inlets being controlled by butterfly valves. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a modified ejector nozzle comprising a converging stack end portion and a slightly flared outlet pipe with a nozzled pipe leading from the silencer to a point short of the constriction; this subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
