Abstract
1,246,827. Constructing piers; bridges &c. STRABAG BAU A.G. 11 Oct., 1968 [13 Oct., 1967], No. 48288/68. Headings E1G and E1H. A multispan bridge, pier &c is constructed by a movable structure 11 having retractable legs 16, 17, the structure resting on previously driven piles 21 .. 24 (for spans 27, 28, 29) then is extended over a further span 30, when its legs 16, 17 are then lowered and the next set of piles at 25 are then driven in from the structure. The first span may be erected over water by the structure 11 being packed to form a pontoon (see Fig. 1) which is floated into position, the jib 15 of crane 14 is erected, legs 16, 17 located in holes 18 and hoists 19 are then located and the structure raised leaving extension beams 11 b, 11c floating. The piles at each end of the span are then driven. Beams 11b, 11c are then added and the structure is moved to the next span. The structure 11 may straddle the bridge &c and carry means 31 for locating the piles, the means 31 being capable of movement along the bridge, pier &c. At each position 21 .. 25 there may be a pair of prestressed concrete or ferro concrete piles side by side surmounted by a yoke girder carrying longitudinal prestressed concrete beams 12.
