Abstract

A bridge construction involves the preparation, on land or on a wharf, of a flat assembly site 11 extending transversely to the intended line of communication to be served by the bridge, the building of a tower or pier 16 on the site at the aforesaid line, the erection of a balanced double cantilever bridge section 17 centred on the tower but at the base thereof and extending along the assembly site, testing of the completed structure at ground level, raising of the structure to the upper portion of the tower, swinging the structure to lie along the intended line of communication and securing the structure in that position. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates in plan a bridge line 12, transverse assembly site 11, approach roadworks 13, three concrete piers 14, 15, 16, and an access road 10 said to be bounded by temporary shuttering. <IMAGE>
