Abstract

1,243,770. Steam boiler. SULZER BROS. Ltd. 6 April, 1970 [11 April, 1969], No. 16120/70. Heading F4A. In a steam boiler 1 hot flue gases are produced in a combustion chamber 32 and pass along tubes 5 and 21 immersed in the water of the boiler. The inlet ends of the tubes 5 are secured in a tube plate 4 which is shielded by a screen of coolant tubes 7 from radiation from the combustion chamber. The tubes are connected to a coolant source-in this case they are open to the water of the boiler, but a separate supply may be used and the tubes could serve as a preheater for the feedwater to the boiler. In modifications, Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), at least some of the coolant tubes have upward extensions and nozzles can be located beneath each open end of at least some of the tubes.
