Abstract

March 9, 1918 Cylinders, heating. -A charge of inflammable liquid is admitted through a compression - relief valve h and ignited, so that the inward and outward movement of air due to the movement of the piston heats the inner surface of the cylinder and facilitates ignition of the ordinary fuel charge afterwards admitted. The movement of the piston may be effected by turning-gear or by the admission of compressed air to the cylinder. The valve h is mounted in a tube f, into which the inflammable liquid is poured, and the valve spring is protected from flame by a shield m.
