Abstract

1,236,169. Mineral oil composition. ESSO RESEARCH & ENG. CO. 10 Dec., 1969 [30 Dec., 1968], No. 60256/69. Heading C5E. A method of making a stable mineral oil comprises adding to a mineral base oil from 2 to 50 wt. per cent of heavy cycle gas oil and from 0À1 to 5 wt. per cent of coal oil based on the weight of base oil. The base oil may be a refined distillate or deasphalted residue. It may be solvent-extracted, dewaxed, sulphuric acid or oleum-treated, hydrogenated or activated earth treated. The gas oil may be topped, dewaxed, solvent extracted or acid treated. The coal oil may be an " anthracene oil " from coal tar distillation. The composition may be hydrogenated, or earth-treated, and is useful as an insulating oil.
