Abstract

1306646 Refining petroleum fractions RAFINARIA PLOIESTI 19 April 1971 [1 April 1970 25 May 1970] 25104/71 Heading C5E . Petroleum fractions are separated by liquidliquid extraction at 20-150‹ C. with 1 to 4 parts by weight of a solvent composed of 70 to 99 wt. per cent acetone and 30 to 1 wt. per cent water. The acetone can be recovered from the raffinate and extract phases by washing with water or by distillation. The extraction can be used to remove aromatics from jet fuels or kerosenes. Distillates from naphthenic crude oil are extracted and the raffinates treated with concentrated H 2 SO 4 and active clay to provide electrical insulating oil or base oils for diesel engine lubricants. The extracts and raffinates can be treated by hydrofining instead of with acid and clay.
