Abstract

The base oils contain (a) a hydrocracked oil as main component, and (b) 0.01-20 (0.1-10) wt.% wrt (a) of a hydrofined vacuum distillate or de-asphalted vacuum residue, or a hydrogen-treated aromatic extract from a vacuum distillate or de-asphalted vacuum residue. The oils pref. have a V.I. of 90 min., and may contain other additives. They are useful as lubricating oils for i.c. engines. stability of oil (a), which has been hydrocracked to increase the V.I. instead of solvent extracted, to light and oxidn. is improved by addns.
