A telescopic ship's accommodation ladder which is pivotally attached to a platform 14 is further supported from a davit 12 by at least one support wire, e.g. 17 of fixed length which extends from the davit over a sheave 28 at the lower end of the upper section 15 of the ladder to a point, e.g. 19 at the uppr end of the lower section 16 of the ladder, and also by at least one running wire, e.g. 32 which extends from a winch 13 over a first sheave 23 on the davit, round another sheave 24 at the lower end of the section 16 to the lower end of the upper section 15. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 there are two running wires 30, 32 which extend around sheaves 31 and back up to the davit, although they may alternatively be fixed at the points 31 (Fig. 1, not shown). In the embodiments of Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) an endless support wire arrangement and a single support wire arrangement (providing two supporting lengths) are respectively shown. In the embodiment of Fig. 5, an intermediate trolley 35 is provided, to which the lower section 16 is pivoted.
