1378566 Extensible ladder KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 11 May 1972 [12 May 1971] 22259/72 Heading E1S An extensible ladder, e.g. for use as a turntable-mounted ladder, comprises a plurality of relatively slidable sections 2, 3, 4, 5, each of which has at least one hand-rail 6 spaced away from the plane of the ladder rungs and connected by struts 8 to a stile 7 thereof, and the ladder is extended and retracted by cables 10, 11, 12 connected to the ladder sections and disposed in the spaces between the planes of the struts 8 of adjacent sections. Preferably a pair of pulleys 13, 14, 15 are mounted at the ends of each ladder section 4, 3, 2 and an endless cable 12, 11, 10 extends around each pair and is connected to the adjacent sections, (see Fig. 2, not shown). The pulleys 13-15 are inclined to the planes of the struts 8 to allow the upper and lower runs of each endless cable to pass on opposite sides of the respective struts. Pulleys 18 carrying electrical cables 17 for operation of the ladder may also be mounted on the sections so that the cables are disposed between the planes of the struts 8. The other side of the ladder may be constructed and provided with cables in a similar manner.
