Abstract

1,235,657. Oxygen lances. SOC. LORRAINE DE LAMINAGE CONTINU. 22 Jan., 1969 [25 Jan., 1968], No. 3683/69. Heading F4B. An oxygen lance for use in a Kaldo-type furnace, comprises a main duct 4, a plurality of auxiliary ducts 12 and a cooling circuit, to said main duct having a rearward section 4b which is connected to a source of oxygen, a forward section 4a which has an outlet orifice 6 and is of a length which is at least four times its mean diameter, and a mixing chamber 15 interconnecting said rearward and forward sections, the said auxiliary duct 12 being disposed externally of the rearward section 4b and debouching substantially tangentially into the mixing chamber 15. The auxiliary ducts 12 are defined by grooves 13 of a screwthreaded sleeve 14 and by the internal wall of a connecting sleeve 10. In operation, the secondary source of oxygen 9 causes the rotation of all the oxygen passing through the main duct 4, the total quantity of oxygen issuing from the mixing chamber undergoing, in the section 4a, a sufficient pressure loss so that at the orifice 6 the jet of oxygen flares rapidly in the form of a cone.
