1303213 Blowing lances GOSUDARSTVENNY SOJUZNY INSTITUT PO PROEKTIROVANIJU AGREGATOV STALELITEINOGO I PROKATNOGO PROIZVODSTVADLYA CHERNOI METALLURGII 23 March 1971 7605/71 Heading F4B In a water-cooled blowing lance having passages between coaxial tubes 2 and 3, 3 and 4, and 4 and 5 for oxygen, shielding air or gas and coolant, the shielding gas is delivered through a helical slot or slots 11 encircling the lance. The slots 11 deliver gas at an angle of 45 degrees to the melt surface. After passing through bores 14 between the oxygen nozzles 8 coolant is returned through the central tube 2 to join coolant returning between tube 5 and the lance housing 1 to an outlet 16. The slot 11 may take the form of a double start helix. (For Figure see next page.)
