Abstract
1285416 Jet mills; coating apparatus FLUID ENERGY PROCESSING & EQUIPMENT CO 8 Oct 1970 [6 April 1970 24 April 1970] 47909/70 Headings B2A and B2L [Also in Division F4] A fluid energy mill 10, Fig. 2, comprises arcuate inlet and classification sections 12, 16 joined by an upstack 14 and downstack 18, the inlet section having a wider outer wall 24 than inner wall 22, these walls being connected by inclined side walls 20, and nozzles 26, Fig. 1, tangential to the arcuate length of the inner wall and in fluid connection with a source of gaseous fluid under pressure. As described the upstack and downstack and the classification section also have tapered walls. The mill may be formed in two parts butted together and lined with e.g., ceramic, steel or glass. Feed material is introduced at 52, ground material is exhausted via a slot 48 and exhaust duct 50, and air or other gas under pressure is supplied via a duct 30. A second embodiment employs a so-called "antifriction" curved inlet housing 112, Figure 7, with inclined walls, and the upstack 114 also has an "antifriction" curve. The classification section 116 includes an elliptical classification chamber; and. has auxiliary nozzles 146 which effect a circulation of material around exhaust openings 142. The exhaust tube may be modified by having a slot in a rotatable tube which can be adjusted into any desired position, Figures 11 and 12, (not shown). In a further modification the cross section of the classification is reverse to that of the inlet section.
