Abstract

122,974. France, A. G. April 25, 1918. Wire-strainers. - Relates to rigging. screws for aircraft &c. of the type in which the eye-bolts to which the wires are attached screw into an internallythreaded sleeve, and consists in locking such devices by providing an external screw-thread upon and slitting the sleeve adjacent to its ends, a nut sliding loosely over the eye-bolt being adapted to screw on to each end of the sleeve. Fig. 1 shows the tubular sleeve or body a with right and left hand eye-bolts b, c, the tommy for tightening being inserted in holes d in an enlarged part at the centre of the sleeve. Externally at each end the sleeve is coned slightly, provided with a screw-thread e and slits f formed at one or more points, and nuts g are screwed over the ends, the parts being shown separated in Fig. 4. In modifications, the nuts have a part of lesser diameter screwed to engage the eye-bolt thread and may be slightly tapered internally to ensure binding, or the screwed end of the body may instead be tapered, or both parts tapered.
