Abstract

496,638. Looking bolts and like externally screw - - threaded elements. PEET, A. May 31, 1938, No. 16184. [Class 89 (i)] In a bolt, stud, set-screw, turnbuckle or like solid or tubular externally screw-threaded element adapted to screw into a nut, sleeve, socket or like internally screw-threaded element, in which one or more holes or recesses are drilled or sunk into the external screw-thread to receive one or more plugs or insertions of fibre or like relatively soft and resilient material presenting protruding portions substantially flush with the outer diameter of the external screw-thread, such protruding portions are pre-formed with an external screw-thread which may or may not complete the interrupted external screw-thread on the bolt or the like. The holes or recesses may or may not be at right-angles to the axis of the bolt or the like, they may be of circular or other cross-section which may be constant or increase inwardly, their inner surfaces may be plain or serrated or otherwise roughened, and the plugs or insertions forced in under pressure. A number of plugs or insertions may be spaced apart longitudinally of the bolt or the like, and they may or may not be at right-angles to each other. The Figure shows a stud 5 fitted with three such plugs 6.
