Abstract

933,560. Pipe couplings. C. D. P. SMALLPEICE. Jan. 25, 1962, No. 2814/62. Class 99(1). A pipe coupling comprises a body having at least two inter-connecting branches 1 possessing bores 3 which are adapted to seat a pipe 4 or the like, at least one branch 1 being made of a deformable material so that a nut 6 may be screwed on to the branch to compress the material of the branch against the pipe 4 or the like. The outer surface of the branch 1 and the inner surface of the nut 6 are frusto-conical, the included angle of the branch taper being less than that of the nut taper. The nut 6 may form its own threads on the surface of the branch. The branch may be externally, longitudinally grooved and the internal bore 3 may be formed with axially extending serrations in a band, Figs. 4 and 6 (not shown). Several configurations of nut thread are described. These comprise a cylindrical or frustoconical thread in combination with an unthreaded frusto-conical portion. The coupling is of a synthetic resin and is formed with a hexagonal body portion 2. " T ", " Y " and elbow coupling configurations are also disclosed, Figs. 7, 8 and 9 (not shown). An internally threaded pipe may be screwed on to a branch of the coupling. Specification 914,916 is referred to.
