Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A flat machine includes a pair of take-down rollers, each comprising sections of short axial length which slip on their respective drive shafts when the resistance imposed by the fabric exceeds a predetermined maximum value. The fabric is pulled between the rollers by hooks 36. The draw-down roller comprises a series of toothed components 12, spaced to allow passage of the hooks, and arranged individually or in groups (see also Division F2). The components are pressed together to rotate with, or slip relative to shaft 10. The counter pressure roller comprises a series of short individual pressure rollers 21 on sleeves frictionally coupled to driving discs 26 of the shaft 11. The rollers take-down newly formed fabric across their full or partial width, and tension previously formed fabric as corresponding sections slip on the shafts. Pressure between the rollers can be varied. The hooks 36 slide in a frame 38 pivoted at 39 and spaced from a holder 43 by a vertically slidable roller 41. To prevent the teeth 12 prematurely disengaging loops from the hooks, roller 41 drops into recess 44 allowing the frame to swing the hooks towards rolls 21 as they descend. The hooks are disengaged by holder high 45 swinging the frame to the left. Slide 46 ensures the needles descend vertically.
