Abstract

A disc which forms part of a support for a conveyor belt of the type having rollers comprising discs threaded on a flexible strap, has a wide rim (3) which is formed with slits, indentations, notches or crenels (4) so that the rim is deformable under the action of the belt and of any products carried thereon. Any deposits either present or tending to build up on the rim are disintegrated so that the discs of the support are unclogged. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION A support disc for conveyors This invention relates to supports for conveyor belts, of the type having rollers, comprising discs threaded on a flexible strap.
This type of disc support can be provided for conveyors or conveyor belts in the form of a trough with a more or less pronounced trough angle and which are subjected to rigorous working conditions.
The discs themselves are most often of the type having a rim.
The transported materials, for example fertilizers, sands, minerals, coal, coke, potash, beet or chemical products, cause the discs to become clogged up by choking, packing and accumulation of materials, which results in the formation of a deposit or crust on the discs.
An object of the invention is to unclog the discs by crumbling, breaking up or rupturing any clogging deposits or crusts by the mechanical action of deformable portions of the rims of the discs, thereby causing fragmentation into particles or dust of clogging deposits or crusts.
According to the invention there is provided an unclogging disc for a support for a conveyor or conveyor belt, of the type having rollers, comprising discs with a rim, threaded on a flexible strap, characterised in that the rim of the disc is shaped with slits, indentations, notches or crenels and is thereby deformable by the conveyor belt, the products carried thereon, and even any shocks that may be imparted thereto, thereby causing disintegration of any clogging deposits produced by the transported material or being formed thereon.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a diametrical sectional view of a disc according to the invention, and Figure 2 is a side elevational portion of the disc of Fig. 1.
In the embodiment shown a disc of a support assembly of discs mounted on a flexible strap of suitable kind, comprises a hub 1, a central web 2 and a rim 3 extending around the periphery of the web 2 and to either side thereof.
The rim is formed on either side of web 2 with indentations, slits, notches or crenels 4.
Due to such indentations, the rim can be deformed by a conveyor belt which transports the product, and possibly receives shocks thereby releasing clogging from the discs whether the clogging is already formed or in the course of formation.
The unclogging discs, as in the assembly of unclogging discs of a disc support, can be cleaned as they are dirtied while the conveyor or the conveyor belt is in operation.
The indentations, slits, notches or crenels 4 which are preferably open at both edges of the rim of the disc can be formed in a symmetrical or unsymmetrical arrangement, whether repeated or not.
In the embodiment shown the indentations 4 are in a staggered arrangement.
The indentations, slits, notches or crenels 4 can be formed by cutting in a varied regular or irregular pattern. In the form of embodiment illustrated the indentations 4 have each the shape of an outwardly opening V.

2. A disc according to Claim 1, characterised in that the slits, indentations, notches or crenels open into both edges of the rim of the disc.
3. A disc according to Claim 1 or Claim 2, characterised in that the slits, indentations, notches or slots are formed in a symmetrical or unsymmetrical arrangement.
4. A disc according to any one of Claims 1 to 3, characterised in that the slits, indentations, notches or crenels are formed by cutting the rim in a varied regular or irregular pattern.
5. A disc according to any one of Claims 1 to 4, characterised in that the indentations each have the shape of a V which opens outwardly.
6. An unclogging disc for a support for a conveyor belt, substantially as herein described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
