Valves.-In a two-stroke-cycle engine having a compression chamber 3, Fig. 1, below the cylinder 4, the admission of gases to the chamber 3 and to the cylinder 4 is controlled by a single rotary valve 19 driven at half the crank-shaft speed. Just after the piston 5 has commenced its power-stroke, the valve 19 opens the fuel pipe 17 to a passage 29 leading to the chamber 3. At the end of the power-stroke, the fuel pipe 17 is closed, and, when the piston has travelled far enough on its compression stroke to close the exhaust port 16, the valve 19 opens communication between the passage 29 and the admission port 18. The valve 19 closes the port 18 shortly before the end of the compression stroke. In order to permit adjustment of the valve 19 relatively to the port 18, the valve spindle 20, Fig. 2, is supported in bearings 21 carried by set-screws 22 provided with lock-nuts 25.
