Abstract

1,215,417. Testing soil. STICHTING WATERBOUWKUNDIG LABORATORIUM. April 21, 1969 [April 24, 1968], No.20196/69. Heading G1S. An apparatus for testing the bearing capacity of soil comprises a pressing tube 1 for pressing into the soil, a separate cone 5 slidable relative to the tube, a connecting rod 9, the upper end of which is supported crude the pressing tube and the lower end of which is sealing guided by the pressing tube, and strain gauges in the intermediate portion of the connecting rod, the pressing tube having an outer diameter at its lower end which is smaller than the outer diameter of the cone at its upper end. Sealing is effected at top and bottom of the connecting rod by sealing rings 11, 12 and 13, the rod abutting a shoulder 7 at its upper end and being screwed into bore 6.
