Abstract

1,214,158. Metal powder coating of metal strip. JOHN SUMMERS & SONS Ltd. Nov. 29, 1968 [Dec. 14, 1967], No.56871/67. Heading C7D. A method of coating a metal strip e.g. steel, with metal powder e.g. aluminium, comprises passing the strip through a series of stations which are in a straight line, the strip being uncoiled at 1, wetted on both sides at 7, 8, 9, metal powder is applied electrostatically at 12 and 14, drying is effected at 22, optionally further wetting at 23, 24 and drying at 25 prior to rolling at 26 and coiling at 31 for subsequent sintering. Sodium or potassium silicate solution is used for the first wetting and the second wetting may be effected with an aqueous solution of nickel hydroxide, aluminium hydroxide, sodium carboxy methyl cellulose or bentonite or solutions of gum aralic, gum tragacanth, albumin globulins, starch, amylose, pectin and salts of alginic acid, polyvinyl alcohol. Sintering is effected at 550‹ C for 1 hour or at 350‹ C for 15 hours.
