Abstract

121,406. Collier, A. T. Feb. 22, 1918. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing.-In variable speed gearing of the kind in which two or more planet-wheels fixed together are carried by arms on the driven shaft and gear with sun-wheels any of which may be stationed, one planet-wheel being driven by a sun-wheel on the driving-shaft and a clutch being used for direct drive, the clutch slides on but turns with the planet cage and engages a disk fixed on the driving-shaft. Planet- "heels C, D on a spindle E secured to the driven shaft U gear with a sun-wheel W on the driving- sleeve T and with loose sun-wheels A, B, either of which may be stationed by a lug H on a sliding sleeve F to give two low speeds. The sleeve F carries a fork L engaging a clutch sleeve 0 turning with the planet wheels to bring clutch teeth Q into engagement with recesses R in a disk S secured on the driving-sleeve T, thus producing a solid drive. By the use of additional planet and sun wheels, the number of speeds may be increased. A reversing-gear of the kind described in Specifications 114,865 and 115,175 may be used with the device.
