Abstract

116,394. Molyneux, F. July 19, 1917. A ddition to 108,221. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing.-The gearing described in the parent Specification is modified to provide two or more braking-members, compound planet-wheels being also employed together with modified means for controlling the relative speeds of the loose outer casing and the driven shaft. The driving-sleeve C<1> of the speed-gear is driven in the forward or reverse direction by a reversing- gear similar to that described in the the parent Specification. The driving-sleeve C<1> carries a planet-carrier E<6> carrying compound planet-wheels F', F<6> gearing with a rotatable casing A and with a sun-wheel G<6> secured to a planet-carrier E<7> carrying planet-wheels F<9>, F<8> similarly geared through a sun-wheel G' to a sun-wheel G<8> keyed to the driven shaft D. Compound planet-wheels F<12>, F<13>, F<14> on a loose carrier gear respectively with a sun-wheel G<9> keyed to the shaft D and with sun-wheels G<10>, G<11> braked to any desired extent by brakes H<3>, H<4> to vary the speed of the driven shaft, the wheel F<14> also gearing with the casing A. Additional planet-wheels, sun-wheels, and brakes may be employed.
