Abstract

20,667. Stallan, W. J. Oct. 7. Variable - speed and reversing gearing suitable for motor - vehicles and for cranes comprises planetary bevel - pinions i carried by a friction roller h<2>, which is slidable laterally to vary the speed and is engaged by a disk (t upon a driving-shaft b. A side wheel k of the epicyclic train is the driven element of the gearing and is connected by an extension m with a square part f<1> of a driven shaft f upon which it slides. The other side wheel j is positively driven from the shaft b through bevel-gears d, e and a sleeve g, which is loose on the shaft f and provides a bearing for the roller h<2>. When the roller h<2> is moved across the disk a, the epicyclic train and sleeve g are carried with it, the sleeve g having a feather g<1> engaging the gear e, through which it slides. The drive is started by moving the roller h<2> from a neutral position with respect to the disk a.
