Variable-speed epicyclic gearing.-In gearing of the kind described in Specifications 110,020 and 118,308, the planet pinions are inclined to each other and are geared or otherwise connected together. The driving-shaft A<1> carries a fly-wheel F which may be clutched by electromagnetic clutches D. E to bevel-wheels D', E' which gear with planet-pinions K, J, arranged on inclined spindles B<2>, B<1> which are secured to the driven shaft A. The pinions K, J are geared together by bevelwheels k, j or otherwise connected, and the pinion K or J or both pinions gear with bevel-wheels such as I<1> braked by brakes such as I. In the form shown, two speeds are obtained by driving the wheel D<1> or the wheel E<1> and braking the wheel I<1>. A third solid speed is obtained by closing the two clutches, and a reverse by driving the wheel D<1> and braking the wheel E' by means of a brake G. five speeds and a reverse are obtained when a brake-wheel gearing with the pinion J is added. The pinions J, K may be inclined at any angle to each other and to the shafts, all arrangements providing for considerable freedom of choice in the speeds to be obtained.
