1535964 Variable-ratio gearing MASCHINENFABRIK FAHR AG GOTTMADINGEN 16 Feb 1976 [20 March 1975] 05936/76 Heading F2D The drive transmission between power unit 1 and road wheels 5 of a vehicle, such as an industrial truck, agricultural vehicle, &c., includes a variable-speed gearbox 3 and a bevel planetary reversing gear 2 controlled by a friction clutch 9 and a brake 10 and situated ahead of the gearbox 3 so that all ratios are available for forward or reverse drive. An input member 21 of the reversing gear fast with a hollow shaft 15 and sun 14 is driven through a countershaft 6, continuously variable gear 8, and a belt 22 and, when the clutch 9 is engaged and the brake 10 disengaged, drives the input shaft 13 of the gearbox in the forward direction. Release of the clutch and application of the brake causes a sun 12 fast on the shaft 13 to drive the latter in the reverse direction. Alternate actuation of the brake, which may be of disc or drum type, and the clutch may be effected by a single pedal with an intermediate neutral position, and means may be provided to prevent selection of reverse when the higher ratios are selected in the gearbox 3 or when the road wheels are not stationary. The gearbox 3 has wheels 25, 26, 27 on the shaft 13 in mesh with wheels 29, 30, 31 on an output shaft 32, and claw clutches 28, 33 for making the wheels 26, 27, 29 fast on their shafts to establish three ratios. Half shafts 37, 38 connected to the road wheels through reduction gears 38 are driven through a differential 4 and wheel 34 fast on the shaft 32.
