Abstract

121,243. Lanchester, F. W. March 26, 1918. Channels in connecting-rods.-To lubricate the gudgeon-pins and pistons of high-speed engines, an oil passage consisting of a number of loops h is formed in, or fixed to, each connecting-rod, and oil, which is supplied copiously to the crankpin, is impelled by dynamic action along the passage to the gudgeon-pin c or slipper block. The oil may also be conveyed to the surface of the piston. The looping of the passage requires to be in the right direction corresponding to the motion of the connecting-rod. In reversing- engines, two looped passages of opposite hand are provided.
