A ship having a propeller projecting under an overhung stern 29 is characterized in that the propeller has dismantlable blades 9 and the overhung stern has a closable passage 33 located over the propeller through which the blades 9 can be passed between the ship and the propeller bows 1. Arrangements are provided for producing a flow of purging fluid across the mating faces of each blade root and the propeller boss during assembly.
