Abstract

120,665. Smith, R. J. Feb. 20, 1918. Water-tube boilers.-A cylindrical water drum B containing a furnace C is connected to a cylindrical steam drum A by vertical watertubes E, the furnace gases passing into the combustion chamber between the drums through a central flue H and escaping to the chimney through smoke-tubes Q or openings spaced symmetrically around the periphery of the upper part of the combustion chamber. The openings may lead into an annular flue and they may be connected to the chimney by separate flue passages. Removable vertical curved baffles P are fitted below the smoke-tubes. A central tray J in the steam drum is connected by tubes K to a water space formed around the sides of the drum by a partition L. The downoomers R open into the space formed by the partition and discharge into chambers S connected by tubes T to the lower drum. The partition may enclose the outside row of water-tubes, which then serve as downcomers in place of the tubes R.
